Dear MNSBC: I Am Done!

I have always watched MSNBC. I am not like any of the morons on the right who seem to believe there is no bias on my channel. I watch it because their bias speaks to mine. And I watch it because their intelligence (once) matched my own. Although they certainly leaned left, there was never any concern of their having actually created stories to promote hate or fear. There was never a time when I was embarrassed to admit that I watched it. There are several people in my family and those that I have worked with who almost seem apologetic for watching the Fox cable channel with the word 'news' in its title. There was nothing embarrassing about watching MSNBC. Its audience is on the left. All rational people who understand our platform know that the left are peopled with compassionate and intelligent individuals. With every month it seems they are inching ever closer to being another Regressive media outlet. Apparently the compassionate and intelligent audience was not strong enough for MSNBC to be loyal to. And, apparently, they don't realize that the chasm between their audience and that of Fox is so profound as to never be bridged. No one is going to cross over.

I have always had to avoid their programming in the morning and allowed an excuse for their absolute insult every day when they aired Morning Joe by telling myself that they wanted to show a balance by offering something for the Regressives. The rest of the day was always filled with intelligent hosts that I enjoyed for the most part. Some of them I even had set to record on the DVR just in case something big happened during the day and I missed it. I would want to hear it live from the hosts I was comfortable with.

I can only assume it was because of an attempt to garner a larger market share that MSNBC has recently determined they would completely fucker up their programming and get rid of some of their talent. Ed Schultz had a very specific audience. The working class and those interested in the environment knew that they would have someone who would reflect on the days news from a perspective that was meaningful to them. He's gone now.

The Reverend Al Sharpton had a very specific audience, too. He was always very honed in on how to relay the days events to make them personal and really help us understand it from a perspective beyond whatever a mere blurb about an event and a reactionary pundits retort would offer. I looked forward to him every night. He was my favorite because he has a heart which seems to feel the pain of the world much in the way that I do. I used to start the six o'clock hour every evening with a big smile and say 'Hey Rev!' to the television (she admits with absolutely no shame. wink). I love him. He is now gone, too.

Alex Wagner was, by far, my favorite of all of the people who had daytime shows. She is so smart and always brought in context to the historical aspects of a story one might have never considered or even known about. She had a welcoming personality and a wit to match none on the channel. She, too, is now gone.

The world is an ugly place. As such, every once in a while a girl needs to get a break from the news and just ignore it altogether. That is just what I did today. I had a Jason Statam marathon instead and enjoyed one of the world's most genuine beauties. I was going to see what happened today at 8 when All In With Chris Hayes came on. Of course, it was 8:35 by the time the show actually started because MSNBC decided to run another Trump rally instead of its regular programming. The President doesn't get this much air time when he actually has something important to say. Trump had nothing important to say. He literally said the same shit he says every single time he comes on. Great! We know. He has seen polls that say everyone loves him. He is a great businessman. He has relationships with important people. He is rich. He thinks a lot of himself. He thinks little of many others. Fabulous. That was 35 minutes of my show. I still had no idea what happened today in the world.

When MSNBC finally determined to get back to its programming, what was the audience offered? Commentary on the Trump rally. Yep. For 20 full minutes. We saw it. Thanks. The whole goddamned thing. We don't need it rehashed for us. He didn't actually say anything. The last 5 minutes of the show Hayes gave us a glimpse into a rally for Bernie Sanders this evening. That was newsworthy. The audience from the left would have really found it interesting to hear the speech Bernie Sanders gave to Liberty University. This is, after all, the most Liberal of our candidates in the most fuckered up setting on the planet for him. Liberty University is the place that teaches their students the absolute opposite of the actual New Testament Bible (am I the only one who wonders if they missed the whole bit about why they are called 'Christians'?) while finding new groups of people to condemn and hold judgement over with every election cycle. That would have been a very interesting rally to hear about. But MSNBC thought we needed to devote the hour to Donald Trump and the speech he has given repeatedly where he has said nothing.

***UPDATE: Please See Petition at the bottom and forward to all ***

I keep hearing pundits go on about what a brilliant campaign Trump is running so far because he really hasn't had to spend much of his own money at all. Fucking brilliant. He doesn't have to, does he? The media (including MSNBC? wtf?) give him all of the free air time he needs. He doesn't need to pay for ads to condemn his rivals, he just goes to any city in the country to hold a rally and the 'news' will stop everything to make sure that all of the country has a chance to hear what he has to say. Motherfuckers.

Well, as MSNBC has determined that it has no need to be loyal to its audience, I  feel that I have no need to be loyal to you all, either. I am done. Honestly. I can only assume you have pulled this shit of getting rid of your shows and offering All-Trump-All-The-Time programming because you want to up your ratings but I am sure it will backfire. You had your audience. Those on the right have a 'news' channel. They don't want you. Those in the middle? I have no idea. I guess they watch CNN. But no one will be tuning in for this shit. The new people doing the news during the day suck. They lack personality and they lack intellect. They ask ridiculous questions of their pundits who jump right in to misinform. If I wanted misinformation I would watch Fox, too. I am not a moron, however. If your objective is to create an even more ignorant society, I will not be along for the ride. You are trading in your audience for no audience. Congratulations. You have completely sold out and become irrelevant. You will find no one interested in your new bullshit line up. As your ratings drop so will your ad buys. I can only imagine that is what this is all about. Fuck You. You deserve to lose your money. And hopefully an intelligent billionaire will come in and take your actual talent to a network where integrity and loyalty are important.

All :  Please sign this petition and pass it on to all who are offended by MSNBCs new programming and demand a return to respectable, left-leaning journalism.

  1. I've been done with MSNBC since they started getting stupid & firing their good journalists & replacing the with the knuckleheads. If they ever get rid of Dr. Rachel Maddow, they will truly be done for good.

    3. To stop watching MSNBC, is the same as not voting! liberals just freaking giving up Wake up !! If you stop watching MSNBC, that will make it so much easier for the corporate clones to justify their actions. But if we respond with emails or letters or phone calls, or whatever, and demand more good programming, all of us at once ! There we will find our power. Contact the companies that run commercials on MSNBC, and let them know that Liberals buy baby food, and automobiles and whatever, at least as much as conservatives. Make suggestions about programming. Stop crying about not getting what you want, and get what you want Damn it. !

    4. Now this is how we should respond. Let our voices be heard and let the ad buyers know that our dollars will speak for us.

    5. David, MSNBC is a corporate clone. They have jumped the shark. Buh bye to them.

    6. MSNBC is dead to me. The creeps at Fox News are laughing at MSNBC, and Phil Griffin. I refuse to waste my time watching the crap that MSNBC is pushing. Scarborough and his little lapdog, Mika are UNWATCHABLE! Chris Hayes is a little boy trying to play in the pool with the big boys. Maddow is a SELLOUT. Of all of them she makes me the sickest. Back in the Air America days she was awesome, now she sold out to keeping her job. I don't need MSNBC.

    7. David--I agree about the commercials--they have fossil fuel commercials now. The first time I saw one, I was stunned

  2. You lasted longer than I did Angie. My TV was tuned to MSNBC over 90% of the time and had been since 2008. I guess we should have seen the writing on the wall when they got rid of Keith Olberman. He was my all time favorite but he wouldn't allow himself to be controlled by anyone and put that in with the fact that he was telling the truth he had to go! Remember MSNBC is owned by corporations. When I started watching GE was the principle shareholder but they sold out to NBC International which is really a subsidiary of Comcast. As I understand it Comcast is very right wing so that is what happened. They obviously didn't give a hoot about the viewers, all they care about is controlling the content of the programming so that was the end. CNN is now more liberal than MSNBC and I sure didn't see that coming. I haven't watched it much because I didn't think they were a whole lot different than Fox "News" but they may be seeing an opportunity to at least partially fill the void created by the radical change in MSNBC. I pretty much keep my TV tuned to Free Speech now because we really have so few choices! Very, very sad state of affairs!

  3. For the past couple of years, the only show I was watching was Rachel's. Sometimes I'd watch a couple of the other shows, but I dropped Morning Joe about 3 years ago. Now I just look for clips from Rachel's show online & don't even bother with MSNBC at all. I live in the crotch of the Bible Belt & having MSNBC on kept me sane around all these Fox zombies. I even subscribed to Sirrius XM to listen to MSNBC in my car. On the bright side, I'm saving $$. I cancelled my subscription.

  6. I hate to say "jumped the shark" but that's what's happened. Tonight Chris Matthews was preempted for a Donald Trump campaign stop. What's up with that? The scary thing is that people are hearing Trump's message , those who are not discerning enough to see just how dangerous and scary Trump is. He's a meglomaniac , could possible be another Hitler. Unfortunately I was to distracted to shut him off. I am frightened.
Although I think Joe Scarborough is a Douche, I have been watching Morning Joe for a while. There was a "balance" to the show where he did not come off as some teabagger nut job. He's letting his freak flag fly lately and I can't take it anymore. WTF MSNBC?

I was horrified when I was slapped in the face w/the Trump rally instead of Chris. Chris is one of my favorites, besides Rachel. Bye, bye MSNBC. 18. Morning Joe should be on Fox network. He will not let anyone have a different opinion. I used to watch him when he seemed to be released, before Obama was elected but he seems to be a hypocrite now.

  19. I liked MSNBC, except for Morning Joe, and Andrea Mitchell. As you said, the network spoke to progressive people, and it did not pretend to present both sides as on FOX. My disappointment with Chris Hayes, and now even Rachel has been on a crescendo, and I no longer have watching as a priority. Rachel had really "in your face" reporting on Freedom Summer and the manipulation of voting in NC, with a particular emphasis on Appalachian State in Boone County. I do not see that anymore. Her program is like a disguised rehashing of the tired stories of the day. And like you, I was absolutely floored with last night's Chris Hayes program. As an aside, if there are any Washington Journal (CSPAN) watchers today-they just spent 45 minutes with the smugness of the Bill Kristol clone, Grover Norquist. In a few minutes, they will feature 45 minutes of discussion about HRCs emails. I am calling them, not that it matters....

  21. I'm in good company it seems. I'm fed up with TrumpTV. I tried to watch Chris Hayes last nigh, one of my favorite, smart go-to persons ever. Had to turn it off, went to be instead. I'm so sick of Trump's pomposity. I'm sick of his snide derision of everyone. I'm sick of losing quality programming to a clown. Damned ratings whores, they are! And then this morning, again, had to turn to CBS on regular TV for a moment of sanity, a brief respite from TrumpTV. Of course, CBS ruined that but not for long, certainly not displacing every other thing on the channel.

I miss Ed, a real working persons man, who was put on at a time most workers with 'regular' jobs were still at work.

Sick to death of Morning Joe. Another arrogant and pompous jerk. And Mika, carrying his water and giggling.... Hey Mika, do YOU know your worth?

This is not a monolithic nation. When every network carries the same damned Trump message 24/7, where's the competition? Where's the concept of a different point of view? And why on earth are we letting the media choose our next President? Bernie Sanders has had crowds that FAR exceed those of Trump, and he was completely ignored until WE THE PEOPLE pushed him past Hillary in certain markets.

If I were a candidate, I would demand equal time to what Trump is getting for free. It's a sad thing when the media is just as stupid and gullible as the lowest misinformed voter or, worse, has such lowered their standards at to play to this crowd for ratings and profits.

  33. Now MSNBC has sold out to a right wing company, plus National Geographic was sold to Fox Corp and went from non profit to profit there will be nothing left but extreme right wing lies, and half truths. The nazi propagandist Goebbels believed and was right you control the media and what is said you control the people. This is what is happening in the good old USA, 90% of the media is owned by 6 white, rich, right wing republican, men and they are controlling what you see and how it is being told. You can thank George W Bush for her overturned the media ownership regulation. Before no one could cross own a media outlet, if you owned a newspaper corp you could not own a radio or TV corp. As soon as he overturned the law it was like a fire sale with Murdock leading the way. We need to implement this law again, to break up these monopolies owned by a few, that's were are fight is and then we can have our liberal, middle, right wing media channels, print and radio.

  34. Am glad to see I am not the only one [who is about ready to dump MSNBC]. All this free publicity that Trump is garnering is a REAL joke. Let's get back to business. The airing of Trump was tolerable the first go-round, but it's getting rediculous. Am in Pacific NOrthwest, so all this crap airs in the late afteroon. Let's get back to our roots, MSNBC.

  35. All of what the petition says, I agree with. I am also fed up with the in-the-tank for Bernie junk. You have completely dissed all Hillary Clinton supporters, of which I am one. Hillary gave an interview to Andrea Mitchell, and Andrea went "bitch" on her-- a real hatchet job. I've had it. I used to watch MSNBC every night, and for all special events. I am gone, because obviously, you left me.... PS: Tell Chuck Todd at Meet the Press that this goes for him, too

  37. I think this is a great idea! I think Rachel Maddow should also mention how the false email scandal applied to Hillary was not only stupid, and false, but also not enough to bring her down or make her to be disqualified from the competition for presidency, etc.!

  39. OMG! So it's true: MSNBC is no longer leaning left. I wondered why Rachel, Chris Hayes and Chris Matthews did a 360 with their format. Can't believe what weak and spineless hosts they have sold out to! I think only Lawrence O. has somewhat maintained his point of view. All these evening hosts used to be my favorites; along with all the other former hosts that everyone has posted, is no longer on MSNBC. But not any more: sooo disappointed and annoyed. I used to stream this news program and watch on tv: I don't want to, but can anyone recommend a media station that comes close to former MSNBC format: progressive? Why is everyone (NBC)so AFRAID to disagree with the lunatic and idiot right-wing nuts?? I, too, am disgusted with all the TRUMP bullshit which is really just: racist, ignorant, White Supremacy, thug-mentality, trying to pass off as a legitimate presidential candidate. Disgusting! MSNBC is kiss-assing the TRUMP dumpster. Thanks, all, for shedding light on this sell-out. Don't know where to go for news now. Sad.

For the past few months I've been playing a game; while watching another channel, I'll say to myself "I wonder what Trump is up to?" and turn to MSNBC. And every single time, they are covering Trump. EVERY TIME! I can't take it! No more Trump!!! I don't care if I have to block every channel on cable, I just can't take it anymore!

  44. I am also heartsick about what they've done to MSNBC. It used to be the only channel I watched but now I have to turn it off most of the time. I feel like I've lost a friend (but really many friends) and cannot stand to see all of the republicans on every show. I don't care at all about what they have to say. I have tried muting the offensive guests but now it makes sense to just shut off the tv instead because I had to mute the sound so often. You have let so many of us down. I now listen to Stephanie Miller as often as I can so that I can be reassured that there are still many progressives in this country with the same philosophy that I have. (You wouldn't know that from watching MSNBC). Since there is no longer a progressive television station, I have to rely on progressive radio. Goodbye MSNBC.

  45. Boy do I echo everything that has been said in all these comments. I can't believe this thread is still going!
I'm sickened by MSNBC after Coma-cast really screwed up the entire lineup. Brian Williams? Chuck Todd? Lord, I so want to vomit. I also once had MSNBC on the TV going all day long. I barely turn MSNBC on now.
What I don't understand is that Comcast is reporting record ratings boosts since they adapted to the 'dumbed down' viewership. Well, it's some sense of schadenfreude to note that Ed has moved on to a slot on RT News, Alex Wagner is a new Senior Editor at The Atlantic and Melissa Harris Perry will be an Editor-at-large for Elle.com. I bet their pay raises and followings just trebled too.
How do Chuck Hayes, Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O'Donnell stomach having to pander to Comcast and it's minions of sell-out poseurs they now have to tolerate as fellow anchors/commentators? UGH. Along with Joe? I can barely look at their faces.

  46. I have watched MSNBC for years, but after their horrible performance this election cycle, I have turned it off and will never watch again! My Tv was tuned to MSNBC for 7 hours per day, but I was horrified at how they bashed Hillary, those insignificant emails, and completely ignore the innumerable, appalling negative character traits of Trump. Maybe I've spent too much time as a government investigator, but I was shocked to watch the American news media assist Putin in destroying Hillary. This did not seem complicated to me, but maybe I have misread the situation. Putin hacks the DNCC and Podesta' s emails, gives them to Wiki Leaks and Wiki Leaks feeds them back to the US news media who broadcast them to the public for months. I think the question should be: why is Putin doing this, what does he gain? Why would the US news media help Putin undermine a US election. I am totally dumbfound. So much for the Fourth Estate. They failed the public miserably and we now have as president of the US a mentally unstable man with access to nuclear weapons!! My God, we have a very serious problem. He has already begun to unravel and undermine some of the very institutions needed to insure the survival of democratic institutions, meanwhile the media chases shinny objects. WHERE ARE THE REAL JOURNALIST??? While the country can survive a bad president, it can not survive an unchecked authoritarian. That appears to be what we're in for. So many lies being told by paid liars and the media fails to confront these people. CNN even hired people to lie nightly on Trumps behalf, Jeffrey Lord, Scotty Hughes, Kayleigh McEnany Parris Denard. As I said, God help us because we are in for a hell of a ride and will be fortunate if we have a system of government we recognize when this nightmare is over.
